It came with win 11, so I set it all up and made the micro$oft account
that they force you to have and let it do its thing.
I bought a 1TB nvme SSD to upgrade the 512G that it came with, intending
to install Debian and put the win SSD aside for whenever needed, but
unfortunately it wasn't compatible. I'll be ordering another 1TB with
the right connector at some point.
What I ended up doing was shrinking the windows partition by 50% in Disk
Manager and then booting Debian USB network-based installer, installing
Debian in the available unused space, then rebooting and having to put in
the Bitlocker Key once to get into Windows Boot Manager entry in the new
Grub default bootloader.
I did forget to disable "fast boot" in the windows control panel before
my first attempt and I think that it caused the EFI partition to get
corrupted. I was seeing I/O errors and "read/only filesystem" while
accessing /boot/efi/EFI/debian, and I had to run fsck.vfat /dev/nvme0n1p1
a few times until it reported that it had removed the /debian folder.
After that, I re-installed grub via the "graphical rescue mode" option on
the bootable USB and everything worked fine.
